What a Long Day!

7 Feb, 2023

Sunday, 5th of February:

I´m a late riser and normally I don´t like getting up that early. But last Friday, I had no problems with getting up at 4 o´clock in the morning, because when it comes to skiing, I´m always in, no matter at what time I have to get up. The offer to go skiing was for students of my school from my year, so that finally forty pupils as well as four teachers took the opportunity and met at 5 am at the school, prepared for the 3-hour trip to Formigal, a village in the Pyrenees. Throughout the voyage I felt on the one hand tired, but on the other hand I was excited about visiting the Pyrenees the first time, therefore I could not fall asleep.

We got to the Pyrenees at eight o´clock, where everybody started taking picture, since most of the others neither had been to the Pyrenees nor had tried skiing. After we had reached Formigal, we collected our equipment and received an two hours‘ briefing from a ski instructor. Well, the others did, but I had to change my boots twice (and there was a huge queue), so I joined my group half an hour later, but I didn´t miss anything important, because honestly, the instuction for my group was superfluous (for we all knew how to ski). Afterwards, we separated ourselves in groups, on condition that nobody skied alone. During a small lunch in the afternoon, we were reminded to be back at 4:30 so that we had time to return our borrowed stuff.

The first slope after the instuction I drove, was with two girls I did the instruction together and their friends, but as the others had never skied before, we split up in two groups and it was just the three of us again. Since they were very friendly, I enjoyed very much being with them. Moreover there weren´t any clouds and the weather, combinated with the stunning nature around us, made me feel like in paradise. For our final slope we planned to ski with their friends again, which we did. We had 40 minutes left and so we chose a little bit more difficult slope to go down, which was a huge mistake! We misjudged completely the time and it took us so long to go down, that we almost missed the last lift. In the end, we made it at 5 o´clock to the ski rental shop, way too late and totally exhausted, but somehow we were back in Logroño at nine o´clock instead of the planned ten o´clock, so it wasn´t so bad that we arrived too late. In total, it was an eventful day and I would recommend everybody to take a chance like this one.
