Flying to space, being an astronaut and experimenting the with weightnessles – everyone has dreamed of this at least once in his their life. But only a minority of people get the chance. On the 11th of February, the four Spanish exchange students from Logroño and two of the German exchange students had the opportunity to experience at least a little bit of the life in space. We went to the „Deutsches Zentrum für Luft und Raumfahrt“ in Oberpfaffenhofen.
We saw life footage from the astronauts working on the ISS. It was fascinating how they just flew around as if it was the most normal thing in the world. We also had the opportunity to go into a model of the Columbus module, which is controlled by the people who work at DLR. This gave us a real sense of the atmosphere in space. We also saw a model of the ISS and had the chance to take a picture with a statue of the famous German astronaut Alexander Gerst. And did you know that astronauts have a strict schedule for their work throughout the day? They even have to sleep and eat at certain times and they can’t just deviate from it because their time in space is so expensive.
All in all, the trip gave us an good idea of what it’s like to live and work in space, especially on the ISS, but we still haven’t experienced weightlessness. Maybe one of us will go into space one day!
