Getting to know the region La Rioja

13 Feb., 2026

I often take trips with my family on the weekends. Last weekend, for instance, we visited three smaller, lovely villages within the region where I currently live. We started our day in Laguardia, a historic village famous for its numerous wineries, where cars are strictly not permitted.

My family and I enjoyed a walk through the town center, taking in the beautiful views you can see in the cover picture. Afterwards, we drove directly to the next stop, Elciego which was only about 15 minutes away. There, we spent two hours on a detailed tour through a vineyard, learning exactly how good wine is produced and stored a process which is very typical for La Rioja (the region i live in).

Later, we headed to another village where we stopped for lunch. We ate traditional Spanish dishes, such as Menestra (a vegetable side dish made from seasonal vegetables, often served with meat or eggs)and Croquetas de jamón (Deep-fried croquettes with a creamy filling and finely chopped ham). Finally, we drove back home and had a relaxing afternoon nap.“
