An afternoon in Spain

24 März, 2026

Last week, my host family showed me the area around Logroño.
First, we drove to a kind of national park, only about 10 minutes away by car. In the Parque de La Grajera, we fed ducks and fish from a bridge and then went for a walk.

Afterward, we arrived in Clavijo after about a 30-minute drive. There, we went to the Castillo de Clavijo, a former fortress that was very conveniently built on a hillside because it couldn’t be attacked from one side due to the steepness.

On the way to the ruins of the „Monasterio de San Prudencio“, my host mother told us (my host sister and me) the history of Clavijo. One particularly important event was the famous Battle of Clavijo, which also played a significant role for the „Castillo de Clavijo“.
The path to the ruins was very rough and rocky, reminding me a bit of a dry riverbed. But once we reached the monastery, the walk was well worth it, as the view was stunning. The only slight problem was that we had to walk back up the path we had previously descended for about 20 minutes.

Having accomplished all of this just before dusk, we drove home.
