One day we visited the charming village of Laguardia, perched on a low mountain with stunning views over the vineyards of La Rioja.
Known for its beautiful old houses and rich history, it is a perfect blend of nature and tradition. It took us 20 minutes to get there from Logroño and we had to take an escalator up to the village as cars are not allowed in the town. Walking through the cobbled streets, we were surrounded by the medieval atmosphere, enhanced by the ancient walls that surround the village.
Although I didn’t taste any wine there, the fascinating network of underground cellars – some dating back centuries – is a testament to its heritage as a wine centre.
Laguardia also boasts impressive landmarks such as the Gothic church of Santa María de los Reyes, with its intricately carved entrance, and the bustling Plaza Mayor at its heart.
On the way home we stopped at a viewpoint and saw a famous hotel with architecture similar to the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and a beautiful sunset. I really enjoyed the afternoon and enjoyed seeing such traditional and charming places.
To wrap up the evening, my exchange partner and I made a delicious lentil salad, which I’m looking forward to making at home. We ended the night by watching a film together before going to bed.
