1 month in France: 4 weeks are over

27 Feb., 2026

Last weekend, my host family and I went to Paris again. On Saturday, we just did a short walking tour through some parts of Paris, as we would spend the evening with my host mother’s friends. We took the public transport to Paris and went straight to Notre Dame. From there, we walked through the student district to the Louvre. As it was already late afternoon, the sky had turned a little pink and created a great atmosphere. From the Louvre, we walked to the Place de la Concorde and took some pictures.

Before going to Paris, my host mother and I had baked another galette, which we wanted to take with us to the her friends that evening. The day before, my exchange partner and I had already prepared a tiramisu. That evening, I was once again given a very warm and friendly welcome and immediately felt at home.

On Sunday, we only went to Paris in the evening, as we had been to my exchange partner’s grandparents‘ house at lunchtime to celebrate her grandfather’s birthday. In the evening, we went to a café in Paris where you can write letters that will be sent in 1, 5, or 20 years, depending on what you want. You can also write a letter to yourself, which is what I did. My exchange partner and I also took pictures in one of the photo booths in the shop. I put my pictures in the envelope and will receive them in 5 years!

On Tuesday, I cooked Kaiserschmarrn for my host family. It took a while, but it was really good! I also explained to them that it was usually eaten with applesauce. My exchange partner found it a bit strange to eat it that way because, unlike in Germany, they have applesauce in the form of Quetchies.

Today I said goodbye to my host family and my class. It was hard for all of us and we cried a lot. They gave me a farewell gift, which made me so happy that I had to cry again. Four weeks have gone by so quickly! I hope we’ll stay in touch, and I’m already looking forward to welcoming my exchange partner to my home in summer and seeing her and a few of my new friends again!
